The cities most famous landmark is the Arctic Cathedral, a modern church completed in 1965, is situated on the mainland, facing the sound and city centre. The church, in reality, is a normal parish church and not a cathedral but it has the most stunning stained glass window showing the Resurrection of Christ. When originally built the church only had plain glass but so strong was the sunlight that worshipers began to wear sunglasses much to the annoyance of the local priest who could not tell if his congregation was awake during his sermons!! He commissioned the stain glass window to overcome this challenge. Well that’s the story I was told since nobody really seems to know the origin of the window.
