It was very strange to read in the Daily Times (The programme for the day’s events) – ‘No Sunrise’ and ‘No Sunset’. To be out on deck at Midnight enjoying the sunshine was a new and most enjoyable experience for me.
I particularly like this first picture of me above taken by the on-board photographer. I’m not usually one for posing but I’m pleased with this one and it will make a pair with the one I have when Rounding Cape Horn in 2012. I’m appropriately wearing my Alaska jacket – quite why I don’t know since it was warm! – and my fleece with my Antarctic badge.
The third picture is my own taken at 1.00am on the 30th June between Murmansk and Archangel in the Barents Sea after I had been sitting on the promenade deck in a short-sleeved shirt improving my tan. It was really weird living in full sunshine for 48 hours.
